Learning Objectives: Understanding that plants have specific characteristics to protect themselves from enemies.
Learning Outcome:
At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
(i) Identify the specific characteristics nof plants that protect them from enemies.
(ii) Describe how the specefic characteristics of plants help to protect them from enemies.
Prior knowledge: Pupils already kno some of the characteristics which plants have to protect themselves. For example, they know that mimosa plants close their leaflets when touched and pineapples have sharp thorns.

Thinking Skills: relating, visualising, making conclusions, generating ideas
Scientific Attitudes And Noble Values: Thinking rationally, being thankful to God,being cooperative, being confident

Teacher ask questions: (i) Why the monkey just stare at the at the pineapple? (ii) Why the squirrel run away when it touch the pineapple? (iii) What are the special characteristics of pineapple that protect itself from enemies? Teacher Use sound effect as monkeys and squirrel that try to eat pineapple. |

Elictation of ideas (15 minutes) |
Identify the specific characteristic of plants that protect them from enemies. -has fine hairs -poisonous -has sharp thorns Produce latex -close leaflets Describe how the characteristics of plants help them from enemies, | Teacher draw a mind-map of natural defence in plants at the blackboard. Teacher ask the students to identify the specific characteristics of plants that protect them from enemies by giving the examples of plants. Teacher ask students to draw mind-map in their exercise book. If they can decorate well their mind-map, teacher will give smiley stamp on their exercise books. Teacher describe how the specific characteristics of plants help them to protect from enemies. Teacher give concrete materials to students for them to observe, to touch and feel it. For example: plants that have thorns, papaya leaves, mimosa plant, pineapple leaves, mimosa plant,plants that have fine hairs. Teacher asks students if there are any examples of plants with the same special characteristics. |

Restructuring of ideas (20 minutes) |
Classify the special characteristics of plants that help to protect them from enemies with the example of pictures. | Teacher divides student into groups. Each group leader come to front to take an envelope. Each envelope contains one type of special characteristic and several pictures. Teacher give instructions to the students about this activity. Each group leader need to hold the cardboard that had written with the special characteristic of plants that help them protect from enemy. The other group members take one each of picture and move and find the other group leader to match with with their plant’s special characteristics. Group leader hold the cardboard; -has fine hairs -poisonous -has sharp thorns -produce latex -close leaflets Group members hold picture; -mushroom -mimosa plant -bamboo trees -pineapple -papaya tree rubber tree -pumpkin -rose flower The students play this activity while listening to the music After that, the group leader tell the specific characteristic and the other group members will tell the name of the plants to the other groups. |
